Homemade Granola Recipe

This recipe will have your whole house smelling delicious! Everyone will think you're baking a rich dessert when in fact, you're making something healthy!

I was thinking about which recipe to film for this week and then granola popped into my mind. I love granola and haven't had it in ages! It's great to eat alone as a snack or to toss some on top of yogurt or cottage cheese or even eat with milk as cereal.

This is the first time I've ever made homemade granola and it doesn't get much more simple than this.

INGREDIENTS

 1/4 Cup Ground Flax Seed

 1/2 Cup Slivered Almonds

1 1/2 Cups Oatmeal or Oats or Muesli

 1/2 Cup Dried Cranberries

 1/2 Cup Shredded Coconut

3/4 Cup Chopped Hazelnuts

 3 Tbsp Natural Peanut Butter

 1/2 Tsp Vanilla

 1/3 Cup Honey

RECIPE
- Preheat oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit or 150 degrees Celsius.
- Combine all ingredients in large bowl and mix until evenly combine.
- Press into baking pan and bake for 40 minutes.

Instant Eye Lift Tutorial - Requested

In one of my most recent videos, I was wearing this look and several people asked me if I had eye surgery! :p Although I have not had any surgery, I do think that makeup has the power to completely transform your face and can make you look like you've had an eye lift, nose job, have lost weight etc. I naturally have cat shaped eyes and when I focus my eyeshadow in the outer crease and wear winged eyeliner, the result is a very lifted look!

Oblique Exercise: Side Plank w/ Raise

I recently discovered and tried this abdominal exercise and love it! I don't know about you but I'm always looking for new exercises to target and strengthen my obliques. I'm a huge fan of the abdominal plank so that's probably another reason I love this move!

This move can be done with or without the use of a dumbbell. If it's your first time doing this move, I suggest doing the move without the dumbbell. That's what I did the first time and it still made me sore!

Target Muscles:
Obliques

It's kind of hard to tell by this photo but the internal and external obliques are shown on the lower left.

Deltoids
Like sexy shoulders? This move can help in that area too!

Instructions

Set Up: Lie on your side with your legs stacked and your lower forearm resting on the floor. Hold a light dumbbell in your other hand [A].

[A]

Action: Lift your hips from the floor to bring your body into a straight line [B].

[B]

Action: Next, lift the weight towards the ceiling until your arm is straight [C]. Slowly lower the weight, then your hips, to return to the start. Repeat for 10 reps, then flip over and do the same with your other arm. Aim for three sets on each side.

Natural Peanut Butter Recipe

I'm so excited to bring you this recipe because it is a favorite of mine! I'm American so it's basically in my blood to love peanut butter. I grew up eating peanut butter on tons of different foods and with jam in sandwiches. For me, it brings back so many childhood memories. I can honestly say this is a food that I've been eating my entire life.

You're probably wondering if this is actually healthy and the answer is YES! The only part that can get you into trouble is if you are not eating a natural nut butter. You want to avoid all other nut butters because they are loaded with extra ingredients that are not healthy.

Natural nut butters, like the recipe below, can be a great source of healthy fats. Yes, it is true that we don't need to eat very much fat but a little bit is healthy! When I eat peanut butter I have to measure it out or else I'm likely to eat too much. I usually go with about a tbsp to eat with a slice of toasted whole wheat bread or an apple.

Click here to watch this recipe video on my YouTube channel.

 - INGREDIENTS -

- Roasted peanuts, 4 cups
Use any amount of nuts you like and any type of raw or roasted nuts you like. Almonds, cashews, walnuts, hazelnuts, macadamias and pecans will all make delicious nut butters!

- Oil, 10 tbsp
You can use peanut oil, olive oil, coconut oil etc. You might need to adjust the amount of oil based on the type of nut you're using; just eyeball it.

* OPTIONAL *

- Honey
I personally love to add honey to give the peanut butter some sweetness.

- Cinnamon
I love cinnamon on just about everything.

- Salt
I choose not to add salt to my nut butters because I like to keep my recipes really clean but you might enjoy a pinch or two.

- RECIPE -

- Place nuts and oil (and all other ingredients) in food processor and blend until you reach your desired consistency.

If this doesn't look good, I don't know what does!

Seriously, who doesn't love peanut butter? If you don't like peanut butter, I bet there's another type of nut butter you like! Is there really anyone out there who doesn't like peanut butter? (Let me know in the comment section). I don't think I've ever met anyone who didn't like it.

Let me know if you try this recipe!

Lots of love!

Change is good...

I have to admit that I am really nervous to post this update but at the same time, I know it has to be done. I have been thinking about how I would explain this update to everyone for the last couple of weeks and truly, there´s no easy way to post this. I´ve talked with a few of my close loved ones and they gave me great advice and confidence regarding how to update everyone on my change in lifestyle.
Here's my YouTube video I posted talking on this subject.

After careful consideration, I have decided to change my diet. I know so many of you want to know what exactly has made me decide to make this change but at this time, I’ve decided to keep my reasons private because they are very personal. And no, I’m not pregnant nor am I trying to get pregnant anytime soon. (; I’m really just following my intuition here and the signals my body is giving me.
So what am I eating now?
Basically, I’ve gone back to how I used to eat before raw veganism which is clean eating. Clean eating is eating lean protein, whole grains, fruit, vegetables, nuts & seeds. I’ve been eating this way now for about three weeks and I have to say that my entire element has responded very well. I am very happy with the results that I’m getting and my energy is through the roof!
I started out on my YouTube channel and blog posting about beauty, health and fitness and want to get back to posting about all of these topics. I’m so excited for this to be a new chapter for us! I have so many delicious, healthy recipes to share with you and also a lot of killer exercises I've been doing - I'm so sore!!
Thanks to everyone for all of the support and kind words!
Have a great weekend!

I'm BACK!! Update!

Hi everyone!

So, I know it’s been such a long time since I posted a video (about a month) but it’s been literally forever (or at least that’s how it feels) since I posted to my blog! I feel like such a blog slacker. I’ve missed you guys so much!

With it being a new year and all, I figured, what better time to start regularly updated my blog again? I’ve made it one of my, unofficial, New Year’s Resolutions for 2012. It also comes at a perfect time because I’ve been having MAJOR problems in the filming/editing/uploading department!

Where do I begin?

-          Firstly, December is one of our busiest months at work because of the holidays. Is it just me or does everyone seem to get overly obsessed about their hair during this month? I was so busy working at the salon that filming got pushed to the back burner. :/

-          Secondly, I’ve been having complications with Adobe Premiere Elements, the editing software I use. Every time I try to edit a video it tells me that I need to update my display driver which I have no idea how to do and neither does anyone else I have talked to. I’ve tried researching online how to fix this problem but I still haven’t figured it out. I can still use the software, however, I can’t see the video as I’m editing them, I can only hear them. I’ve actually edited a couple of videos by sound only. This sounds funny now that I’m typing it.

-          Thirdly, I ruined my filming camera! -.- We recently went on a day trip to see a live nativity and I packed a book bag filled with my necessities for the day. Well, when I went to get something from my bag I noticed my water bottle had leaked and my camera was SOAKED! It has not functioned since. :/ Does anyone know if the camera can be repaired or do I just need to buy a new one? I feel so bad because this was a Christmas gift from my brother last year. Sorry Jon! This was an expensive lesson learned, that’s for sure!

I also want to give you guys a quick exercise update. As many of you know, I’m scheduled to run a half marathon (my first) when we visit the states next month. Yay, for a much need vacation! I’m currently running about six times a week doing one long run, one moderate distance run, a tempo run and then a few easy 5k runs. Last weekend I ran my first eight miles ever, nonstop! :D I’m also still doing the Insanity workout DVDs but I’m not doing them every day since my half marathon training is now taking priority. I usually do the DVDs on the days when I run the easy 5ks. It’s been averaging about three times a week.

Well, these are all the updates that I have for you at this point. I will be bringing more updates because I’ve got some pretty excited things going on in my life! (:

Wishing you a wonderful day!
Lots of love!
